My girlfriend has been out to Tenerife and lanzarote and is trying to convince me that the canaries are the place to move to! If anyone can help with my questions etc it would be much appreciated. We currently live in Wales, by the sea and i've been searching for somewhere to move to where its warm all year round, plenty of greenery/scenery, English/Spanish speaking , good surfing and good fishing! Australia is my 1st choice but we dont qualify. We would like to steer clear of really busy touristy places, but my line of business is property investments and renovations etc so need a town/city close to hand with plenty of opportunities. If anyone has been to the Canaries please feel free to suggest an island/town that may suit us most, or any negative feedback you may have. Ta

Hi,
I'll give you my views from visiting all the islands over the past 20 years or so!
Lanzarote is the 'quietest' build up island but is very volcanic so not much greenery. Some great sights of luna landscapes though. Property prices here seem to be some of the highest in the Canaries.
Tenerife has some nice scenery but the main 'tourist' area is now very build up playa las americas to Los Cristianos. The last time I went there (4 years ago) there were also issues with fighting etc becuase of the number of bars/clubs in a short stretch of space. Apparently this is better now!
Fertuzentera (sp?) is the least build up island with great beaches and surfing but properly won't have much for your business at the moment although it's building.
Finally my favourite Gran Canaria - you get 2 islands in one. The Green, wetter North with the laid back places and the drier, hotter dessert like South with great beaches. In my view GC has the best scenery with some great 'green' valley's. Playa Del Ingles and Puerto Rico are the main tourist city's on the island. You can come out 10 from these towns and you'll get smallish villages and piece and quiet.
Fishing shouldn't be an issue on any of the islands!
Hope that helps you??

I'm in agreement with richt71. You need to visit them for yourself though. One man's paradise is another man's hell.
Las palmas - the city on Gran Canaria is very cosmopolitan but very spanish at the same time. You need some spanish to survive there. Building, renovations, property investment etc - alot of people are doing it and so you have to make yourself the best or slightly diffrent to everyone else.
Ask any more specific questions and we'll be happy to help.

for fishing so the locals tell me you do have to have a licence, even the locals have to have one, Just even fishing on your own by rod, and if you havent and the police see you its a fine.

The way i personaly thought about it,
Tenerife, too busy too much crime.
Lanzarote, Felt that i didnt want to put my money where the volcano is still smoking, not much there.
Fuerterventura.Too much building going on, too windy,Not yet established.
Gran Canaria. OH! GOOD! everything here,
even a big town the best of all worlds. I can have the remote, the resorts, and a big cosmopolitan city, Plus Telde (the old city) Suburb style.
