All the visitors to the island are commenting on how quiet the island is.
The island is still a wonderful island and a lovely place to visit and the nightlife is still great.
We are putting together a list of people who support our desire to push our island more and increase the advertising and such like by the government.
If you support us then send me your name and I'll add it to our list.

Add our names Mary- (Angela & Ron)
We have noticed a steady decline in numbers since 2001.
We live on the Isle of Wight (when we are in the UK) And we can remember the days when this was very busy as a Tourist Resort. The high cost of the ferries, the cheaper package tours abroad & the unreliable weather in the UK have all had there toll.
I was told by a Restaurant owner in PDI that the emphasis on advertising was on Teneriffe because of governing bodies. They need to act now to address the situation. The atmosphere of the place is not the same when it is so quiet.
Gran Canaria is a wonderful Island but if tourism is not sustained it will have a devastating effect on the economy. Tourism creates a very large proportion of employment both directly & indirectly.
Act now before it's too late!!!!

We go away on the 19th and love where we stay (Maspalomas) as it is very quiet of a day and night.
But, only a short taxi trip away from as much nightlife as anyone can handle!
Having been to Tenerife many times (approx 15), though still loving it for many different reasons, Gran Canaria comes out top!
Can't wait to get back there!

Im not sure advertising is the answer, they should try bringing the cost of the flights down that would do more good i think

Tenerife gets the main frequent airlines and accomodation can be expensive here.
Its a combined effort I think. if flights were more frequent and cheaper, accomodation was cheaper then bars could be cheaper as they would get more custom etc etc.
Churchills are starting a campaign for all businesses to club together to try and get GC back on the map. If we are a combined force then maybe the government would listen to us.
we need names of businesses and suppliers that support us and also tourists who love our island as much as we do and dont want to see it going down the tubes.

Just arrived back in the wee small hours from PR this morning.
Found PR a bit quieter than this time last year but come midnight the bars were as busy as usual.
Add me and michelle to the list please mary.

Itīs not as quiet as last year & for info tourism is up 7% in May ,Brits are about the same others are way up. :-
The airport authorities have reported that the number of tourists arriving in Gran Canaria in May 2006 was up 7% on the same period last year - a total of over 740,000 visitors.
Figures released by the Gran Canaria Cabildo (the local authority) say that the German market has grown by over 10%, the British numbers have stabilised, Italian visitors are up by over 58%, French by 34% and Norwegian by 25%. As a result, there's a growing confidence in the island's tourist industry.
Tourists are also going to other areas in GC now not just the south .
Of course Puerto Rico may be quieter because its facilities are increasingly seen as outdated .

I agree with Roxy, and add that Flight Times are not that sociable as well, I do not want to be travelling in the middle of the night, so how people with young families cope, I salute them.
Gran Canaria is special.
