Good man, you wouldn't keep me out if there were a good rock venue in GC.

Keep an eye on www.metalunderground.com (http://www.metalunderground.com) because some of these guys gig around Spain and the islands.

If I hear of anything else I'll pass it on.

Unfortunatly bars here only want Dj's that do party or charts and do karaoke, quiz's etc. No slots for decent rock music DJ's (hubby does that and has tried to get work) A decent rock venue would be great here.

We have thought about having a rock concert on the beach (know a lot of contacts from Uk who would fly over to play) but I can't see the canarians going for it!!
A decent live music venue would be great, with decent bands and DJ's No karaoke, No impersonaters (bad spelling) just good music.

It doesn't have to be OTT heavy metal but there is certainly a market for rock and there's been a gap for years.

Get on and good luck ;) My money's over your counter.

I have contacts who would love to play, I live next door to one.

Beaches are a no-go because of rules and regs, but Canarios can rock. Maybe Owen can fill you in?

BANDS
If someone could identify a suitable venue for gigs then I've no doubt I could get a load of bands to go over for gigs. Mainly Indie music bands which would prove very popular with the UK tourists.

I ran a Nightclub/Live Music Venue and booked over 200 bands from throughout the UK and the US to play for us - still have their contact details. These are all up and coming bands and many are destined for much better things.

VENUE
There's many ways in which it could be done. A festival of sorts with all bands going over for a specific date or my preference would be for a live music venue to be identified (or better still several) and bands would be booked to go over when possible.

The venue should have a decent backline in place because equipment would be too expensive for many bands to take over with them.

Carrots for the bands would be playing in front of a truely national/international crowd and obviously it's a holiday for them too.

ACCOMODATION
Ideally they should be guaranteed a set amount of gigs during their stay and if at all possible a deal could be done with somewhere giving them a discount on their accomodation. After all they're splashing out a lot of money to get there. Chances are Bands would make a real occasion of it and bring some of their fans with them too. Could be a windfall for the right accomodation and indeed the venue.

ME
I'd be happy to promote the venue and book the bands over here in the UK and to ensure the venue has the knowledge to run it smoothly. I'd do this free of charge to the venue for an agreed trial period.

If the venue takes off and is proving successful then I'd be happy to quote for building the venue a website and to continue promoting it and booking the bands.

INVESTOR
So if there's a venue out there already or if someone on here has the money and foresite to help generate something like this and you're interested in my help then drop me a PM and we'll have a chat.

It could prove to be one of the best and most popular attractions on the island!!

Seems like were not the only one's that ran a live music venue, Some good points Sandy but we were looking at a one off music festival in one venue as many of the bars could a) not afford to pay the fees b) not be allowed to have live music c) not fit in a decent size band. We have begun to look into all possibilities and will let everyone know if and when anything happens.

A great deal of our bands have offered to play for free for us and we have been in contact with them regarding the music festival to organise a mutually good time of year for all of them.

Thank you for all your very interesting points and if I do require your help Sandy I will let you know.

Do not want to ruffle your nest mate.....................why are you not still running nightclubs and venues from glasgow.

Rangerstrueblue - I jacked it in about 3 weeks before we went on holiday due to disagreements with the owner. Since I came back from holiday I've been "decorating". This was part of the deal with the Wench - holiday then I decorate but it's turned into a total refurbishment.

Still weeks away from completion so I reckon it'll be the new year before I get involved again. Had a few offers already including bands asking me to manage them. Still considering things and may either start my own promotions company, get into band management or back to managing a venue - will stay involved that's for sure.

Venue/Club I managed was Pharaohs in Coatbridge - heard of it? The owner closed it down less than a fortnight after I left. Unfortunately, they've taken the website I built for them offline but if you visit this link you'll see six of the bands on video playing there.

http://stagestorm.com/stage%20storm%20tv.html

I called our bands night The Soundry - check out:

TDF (The Deadline Fever) from Manchester

Johnny 99 from the USA

The Front

Oswald

Coloured Dreams - all from Glasgow

Theme from Fife

Let me know what you think.

(By the way, the guy that did the videos for us is absolutely fantastic, anybody know of someone in a band and they want a video then they should contact him - good price for an excellent DVD.)

By the way - I'm not a "weegie" :glare:

Redswanlady - Someone on the island needs to come up with a Live Music Venue - even if it's a wee bit out of the way so as not to attract complaints etc.

Does anyone know whether any of the other islands has a Live Music Venue?

I wasn't suggesting that the bands were paid for performing but guess that would depend upon whether you were looking to attract established bands or up and coming bands. Most up and coming bands would be happy to play for a couple of quid off their accomodation and the guarantee of 2/3 gigs during their stay.

If you're going along the music festival route and the bands aren't fully established yet then you'd be best to organise it for the summer months to fit in with College/Uni breaks. A lot of them and their fans are in further education and you'd attract a larger support from the UK.

Yeah by all means give me a shout if I can help in any way.

hi sandy
smoked glass just blew me away also a hint of the eagles from them.
landscape gardening and decorating is wasting you get back to the music industry.
I was a part of the backup team for coldplay when they first hit the scene thanks to t in the park and their first big hit yellow came directly at the back of their performance in king tuts tent at balado.
smoked glass look like they can make it big and the video is the first I have been made aware of them great voice and lovely backing music.

As for live music venues - we have the Stadium and the concert hall where most of our live concerts are held - but they are in Las Palmas

Hi Rab

:sadguy: That's the only video on that page that wasn' shot at The Soundry. They were due to play the week that the club was shut down. That video was from the Cathouse in Glasgow.

They are very good. Here's links to their myspace site and website where you can hear more of their stuff.:

Coldplay - Excellent. Yellow still just about their best song too. Are you not still involved in any way Rab? Must have been a huge buzz for you.

Mary that's unfortunate that those are the closest venues. I reckon if someone built a stage on top of a flat hill and put up some tents selling booze then the tourists would flock to it. All open air stuff and running from 8pm til midnight. It would be great.

I'll start a new thread and put links to a few of the bands that played for me that I think have great potential.

Would help if I actually wrote something before hitting the button!!!!!!

There are live music venue's just not that many because of the reasons I listed before, No band that I have booked or would consider booking for such an event are enrolled in College or Uni, the scale of festival we are considering needs experienced performers who have done this type of thing before.

We want to appeal to tourists and locals alike who appreciate good live music which we know there is a market for in GC.
