My understanding is its because Owen could only get a back up from a certain date and this was before the forum had gone down therefore there may be a couple of days worth of data that have gone.
Looks like there is a gap between about 21st March and the point the site went down.

What actually happened to the forum? I guessed it was down but just wondering if anyone knew why? Thanks!

Well isn't that just typical !!!! I first registered at the end of March and posted my very first post and it's GONE !!! I hope this is not a bad sign for me or the fact that maybe my hubby should have a complete change when we come out to GC and not even look to see if there are any engineering firms. Oh well, hope my next post doesn't disappear into oblivion.

Hi,
It's been a while since I was here last time and a lot of things seem to have happened. In fact, not only all my posts disappeared, but so did my login so I had to register again. Last time I was here was in December 2005 and so many changes. Oh well, hopefully, from now on it'll all be more permanent here:-)
Cheers!

I posted my first post on this forum yesterday evening for the Puerto Rico/ nightlife section, it hasn't appeared yet. Will it appear later today or do I have to send it again?

Actually, I still didn't quite get when the failure happened? I was registered before December 2005 and my last posts here were at the beginning of December when I left for GC. Does it mean that December 2005 is actually the "point of no return"? I see many people are registered this month but no one before. Was it in the middle of the month?

It was around Christmas time. The site had to be built up from scratch and everyone had to rejoin

That's what I mean:) As I said, all old-timers who were vigilant that time seem to have the joining date in December 2005. Those ignorant re-joined some time after the outage.

I presume by "ignorant" - you actually mean users that were unaware that the site had crashed or users who were new to the site after that point.....?

Yes, like me, for example ;) As I have no other interests on the Canaries than coming here for holidays, I mainly use this forum only when I'm planning visiting one of these wonderful islands. And I suppose there are many others like me. Of course, there are people who live here (both physically and virtually) but I can only wish to be one of them :) For now, I can connect with this piece of beauty only on rare occasions...

the forum was up and running when I joined around 2000-2001 and was called owen 100 it crashed due to a useless piece of article called a hacker around 2005 which by this time the forum was now called canaryforum.com and if I remember it was hacked a few times previous we all rejoined and thanks to all the members on here who rejoined, it once again became a valuable source of information for visitors to the canary islands.....
here is a little info of the man himself from himself when it was still owen 100 dont pay any attention to the years he says he has been on the island it is an old post it must be around the 10years mark now I think ?????????http://www.canaryforum.com/personal.html
