I know this is probably a very obvious one - but, do asthma inhalers go in your hand luggage or suitcases?
My son's friend hasn't needed to use an inhaler for a couple of years now but thinks he should take it on holiday - just in case!!
I think it will (quite obviously) be allowed in hand luggage, in case he needed it urgently, but just wanted to check before giving him duff info.
Any info greatly appreciated:thumb:

We carry ours in hand luggage - never had a problem. Get him to take his latest prescription along in case anyone does query it and ask for medical paperwork.

should be no problem just place in to a clear resealable bag in your hand luggage remove and place in a tray at security check. ensure that no liquid medicine exceeds 100ml.here is a medical check link that explains procedures its for edi airport but most airports are under the same procedures.

Has the world gone mad or what, inhalers for kids, it;s sad we have to take all these precautions to clear security, yet drugs, arms and the like find their way to the uk every week, where do the people get drugs ? where do people get guns to shoot people ? i certainly dont know, but checking for kids inhalers is not the way to stop it. Its about time the customs etc went after real crooks and leave the general law abiding citizens alone to get on with thier lives. Now i'm off my soap box , what does everyone else think ? I know customs are their for a reason but taking a few extra fags back from your holidays is hardly a hanging offence. Adios.

I havde always carried mine in my hand luggage since being a kid so that's a long time as I can get a bit asthmatic with the stress of travel. I've had security ask me to remove the cannister from the inhaler and they've checked it but it's no big deal. :thumb:

Thomas Cook and most other travel companies state in their items allowed in hand luggage as:
"Prescription medication for the trip is permitted with no ceiling on quantity. Please note that the definition of trip is the journey to the destination, not the whole duration of the period of time away."
I have never had any problem with taking my asthma medication in my hand luggage and to be honest I cannot see any reason, if you have an asthmatic attack during the flight they certainly cant go rummaging in the hold for it or land the plane just so you can get it. I had a mild attack when travelling from GC to Fuertaventura and used my inhaler on board with no problem either.

I've travelled all over Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean. I’ve always kept one or two in my pocket and put it into the tray to go through Xray and never had a problem.
While we are on the subject, I would like to ask the board if you have any problems with your asthma while abroad. I must say that I’m always 90% better abroad than I am at home, especially during the winter months. Must be something to do with the cleaner air that we get abroad.
Wife keeps nagging on about retiring to Gran Canaria and use’s the excuse about my asthma as a bargaining point. LOL Who knows!!!!!

I get an asmatic hayfever around March time.. another good reason to holiday at this time. Completely disappears over there..pretty obvious i guess , as what ever sets it off doesn't grow over there...
