New regulations for passengers
Following the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Surrey, the European Union have introduced interim protection measures to help prevent the spread of the disease from the UK. Under the Import and Export Restrictions (Foot and Mouth Disease) Regulations 2007, from the 7th August 2007, it is now illegal for any of the following to be taken out of the UK:
Meat
Meat Products
Milk
Milk and Dairy ProductsAll of the above are from any animal that may be susceptible to FMD including cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and deer.
This ban includes sandwiches, packed lunches and food for self-catering holidays, and includes fresh, chilled, frozen, tinned, preserved and processed products. Passengers may consume these items on board their flight but they must not remove them from the aircraft upon arrival at their final destination.
