is it just me and andi that have noticed nearly every skandi wears glasses. last nite when we was eating out about 90% of them had glasses plus about half wore sandals with socks whats all that about. dont get me started on the ski poles walking up the hill lol. just one more thing why are they the worst tippers here, do they not tip back in their homeland i dont know. a table near us of 6 people tipped the waiter 95 cents. they seemed to enjoy themselves and said the food was lovely.
anyone got any explanations of the things above would make my day

cheers russ

When I was a small child, they told me that there was something that would make you go blind. For the life of me, I can't remember what it was........

I don't think tipping is that common in the UK tho - I always tip for good service whether at home or abroad. However having come from back from the states where you have to tip just above everyone that seemed too far the other way - I just plain forgot sometimes to do it.

It does annoy me where places put a service charge on though if your table number goes over a certain amount - the restaurant only has a certain capacity so whether you are a table of 10 or 5 tables of 2 they still only cater for the same amount of people. Although I would probably still tip the same amount I think its cheeky to add it on.

When the Old Man and I were in New York last year, the waiter came and told us we hadn't tipped enough! When we went back to our hotel, the waitress in the Tick Tock Diner (best breakfast in the world, incidentally) told us the waiting staff were paid 2$ an hour, and had to make up their wages in tips! I still think it's cheeky to add it on, but understand that in the UK you can refuse to pay if you don't think the service was good.

I knew in NYC that they make up their wages with tips - I just forgot some i.e. I tipped the maid each day and forgot to tip the woman who turned down the beds and put the chocs on the pillows so had to find her and tip her at the end of the holiday!

95 cents is mean...i think the scandies value qaulity of life over
the manic hours we in the UK work. The Brits work hard and play hard
and don't care how much they sprend whilst the Scandies are more careful
with their Euros as they probably don't have as much expendable cash.
Alcohol is also much more expensive in those countries and this
is refelcted in how they behave..who is right and who is wrong??
Life would be boring if we were all the same. As for the wearing
of glasses...obviously they @@@@@@@@@@@ too much,which reminds
me i must pay a visit to the optictions soon.

I agree wullie, they do tip but aren't as wasteful with their money like other nationalities, I find they tip more than the germans who don't even manage a please and thank you!

love or hate them a lot of businesses would go under if it wasnt for our skandi friends filling hotels in the winter.
glasses are for disguise so nobody recognises them when they leave a skimpy tip.
sandals and socks come from the war when the germans invaded by wearing these things they were mistaken for being german and excused torture:)
ski sticks are for to stop them speeding uphill.
there you are russ:banghead:

life would be boring if we was all the same but and a bloody big but

not a please or thank you clicking fingers to get waiters attention and leaving less than 20 cents per person tip, thats just arrogant and ignorant and if i was the waiter i would have chucked the coins at them!!!!!

on a funny note, the other nite in xtreeemz 4 swedes or carrots dont remember were sat in a full bar everyone else was british apart from them and they came up to me and accused me of being rude because i didnt translate everything into skandi. i pointed out we are a british bar and i would not walk in a skandi bar and demand they speak english. they were very arrogant so i reminded them that if it wasnt for my grandfather they would all be speaking bloody german. he got my drift and left. with me in the bar was 2 friends from norway. some of u may remember if u was in the bar as i asked what they think of germans and she shouted at the top of her voice ****ing **** lol she said swedes were very rude when they came to norway aswell

is that 2 guys or a male and female its just 2 guys live here but dont see much of them. 15 canarians was most ive seen in a apartment where they all sleep beats me. they come for the weekend and leave a mess dont clean up after themselves. thought it would be ok here as its not a big tourist area mainly residential in this area but how wrong we were. we came to look at the apartment in june when the area was quiet but its not only holiday makers that make the noise weve got a bloody building site next door anyway least its hot could be worse could be back in england in the cold should be grateful for small mercys

Ahhhh i know what you mean,i was the receptionist here last winter, from October to April...well i left a month early as i couldn't tolerate the job anymore, was all Scandanavian guests and due to the building site i got complaint after complaint, wanting compensation for the building works...when actually they were all informed b4 they arrived and offered alternate accom. also they all demanded things ,not asked! so rude....when i say things i mean, cheese slicer ....as a knife just wasn't good enough! and a whisk...again it was unbelievable that they were expected to use a fork!
I was informed by a Dutch Rep that before they depart their homeland they are given a check list and told that if any of the items were missing they could claim compo..... i thought a free microwave, coffee maker,toaster,kettle,b-day and free tv was more than generous.
These apts are gorgeous as they are now only 2 years old ,but only have a 2 key rating,in my opinion it should be more, they behaved as though it was a 5* hotel and i was a 2 bit skivvy! grrrrrr.
I was only doing the job as i was bored so as soon as i could, i left and swore i would never work with Scandanavian tourists in that field ever again.
There was the odd couple or two that were fab but very few and far between.
Just shows how very different we are.

You have to remember though that in Scandinavian languages, when speaking them, they don't use the word please - they're not just being rude. It is a translation thing.

Maybe clicking fingers is what they do back home instead of saying "excuse me" - I don't know, I've never been to Scandinavia (too damned cold LOL). I also hate the Spanish way of hissing for attention but it's just what they do and isn't considered rude here.

I do agree about them all wearing glasses though - always square or rectangular ones!
