Sorry i know im being a pain but after reading the cheapest flights thread ive been looking again and realised i could fly to madrid with easyjet then onto LPA with spain air and its cheaper than iberia.

I can get a madrid flight for 4 of us in Aug return for £226 incl luggage.

Has anyone done this?
Is it risky using different airlines as i would have to collect luggage etc

Would landing in Madrid at 1110am and leaving at 1455 be cutting it or ok?
Return would be land in madrid at 1735 and fly out at 2040

Span air coming out around 600 euros for us all

Any opinions please

Vicky

I would have thought your bags would be transferred by the airport. If you dont have to collect your bags and check them in again then the times should be fine

Does it work out cheaper doing it that way rather than flying direct to Las Palmas with Easyjet?

Yes as easyjet want £922 for us all to fly direct.

As it is 2 totally separate bookings im assuming i would have to do the collecting of bags and re checking in.
Just spoke to a friend who was cabin crew she said she wouldnt advise it as if one flight is delayed and im on 2 seperate bookings i could miss my flight.

afraid not mary as it is different companies then baggage has to be reunited with the passenger at madrid then checked in again with the other airline.
lots of reasons for this but!! one of the main ones is if your luggage was tampered with and articles stolen or baggage ripped to shreds then transferred over to the other airline very hard to make a claim as neither airline would accept respnsibility as it would be impossible to prove who was the negligent party.
another reason is your baggage can be tampered with and drugs etc added therefore baggage should be opened by yourself and checked prior to checking in with the second transfer you just never know.

Hmm im thinking although cheaper maybe this really isnt the best option with 2 young kids, might send the stress levels soaring!!!!!

I think im going to have to either do iberia at £790 and change but knowing they will transfer bags etc or do easyjet at £922 argh i dont know what to do lol im not normally this indecisive !!!!!!!!
the time ive messed about and decided they will be increased again!
If it wasnt for hubbies lovely job i could have booked easyjet last month and only paid £714! if i book now im still taking a chance on his leave dates.

Just an observation, it's worth remembering Madrid is 1 Hour ahead of UK and Gran Canaria, so the departure times stated are local to the airport.
We started using Iberia when BA were too expensive. Our August 4th flight out is now with easyJet after the takeover. I checked the price now on easyJet for 4th August to 18th August and for 2 people it was a staggering £850 including 1 checked bag each and priority boarding. We paid BA £378 for the flights back in September. As we have to travel during school hols, I don't think easyJet is for us. You can't even book October half term until June.
I think Rab's timetable is excellent considering your circumstances, I wouldn' fancy lugging cases between terminals, Madrid is a massive airport.

Thanks for that Rab you are so helpful!!!!!!

It is basically what i had been looking at doing but for the 2 weeks but same timings......im still undecided if its just easier to pay the extra and fly easyjet.

Just so annoying to know that a few weeks ago easyjet were so much cheaper but thats what happens with flights and still they are cheaper than all the other charter airlines but i have to agree nowhere near as cheap as other flights they have on offer for the summer months ......... so frustrating!

Ive done the Madrid stop over several times. Both checking my baggage through using BA and Iberia and collecting and rechecking using seperate copmpanies.

I quite like it. I get a Morning flight to Madrid, go into the city for the afternoon and fly to Las Palmas early evening. It makes flying day into a holiday day. Not sure Id do it with kids though.

Terminals are Ok, prices fair and there is a few shops.

Certainly worth a thought though if its a single person, adult group or couple.

So - presuming you land with one flight - do your check in for the next so you don't have any luggage and then go into the city luggage free?

If its a conecting flight, luggage is checked through. All you have is hand luggage. You can even leave that with the left luggage place I think. Other wise just check luggage in and take yourself off. Subway station is at the airport.
