Hopefully it will not happen but scotland is presently in meltdown mode with the threatened strike action at grangemouth refinery who supply all of scotlands petrol. panic buying has taken place since last weekend and already most garages are rapidly selling out. they have already started closing the refinery down and when fully closed it will then take a month to get bact to normal service after a shutdown which will surely have a knock on effect on flights food deliveries and essential services being carried out. although major news in scotland hardly a whisper has been heard on the uk national news the RBS is also going to be trying to generate around 10billion pound in shares to try and slow down the credit crunch meanwhile alaistar darling is asking moneylenders in the housing business to try and help out.........and Mr. Brown and the good old labour party are standing firm on their latest income tax hike saying we have never been so well of under their power LOL It may be good for the british tourist trade and british exports but!! for the british public it is a disaster. we now have to wait and see if there is going to be fuel to get us to the airport and also fuel to fly our kite to pr.you may all ask what this thread is doing in holiday chat well we depend on fuel to reach our jollies bases and a respectable euro exchange rate to afford our jollies lol.

I was on nearly empty this afternoon and pulled into the petrol station across the road from my house. No unleaded petrol at all.
Next petrol station is at asda a good few miles away. You wouldnt believe the q and I had to wait in it.
Drove past my local petrol station tonight and the signs are still up that they have no unleaded!!!

Really sorry to hear about your fellow string-vesters causing unnecessary shortages and resorting to the Glasgee kiss at the pumps rab.
Obviously the Scottish gov are channelling too much of our (English) cash into the wrong areas i.e. cheaper prescriptions etc rather than focusing on Education whereby people would be able to read that they shouldn't be panic-buying, thus exacerbating the problem.
As regards obtaining petrol to get you to the airport for your jollies, there's not much point is there?
When you get to the airport, you'll probably find it has a hole in the runway and your kite will be cancelled anyway, even if the wind is blowing in the right direction.
I will pass over your comments on the RBS (the S stands for SCOTLAND) begging money from us, as I don't have enough to spare at the moment.
On a plus note rab, it is good to see that your therapy is working, and that you have moved on from 1966.
You are now at 1967, and as you improve, you will eventually be able to talk openly about Lisbon and Celtic.
Best wishes and keep on taking the tablets,
Al

You hit the nail on the head there rab. The odd bit of tenting this year is about all we will be able to afford.
I am slightly concerned about this petrol lark, as we are moving house next week. Up to the north-east. Where Scotland provide fuel to :(
Hope there's enough diesel for removals!
PS See, I love you that much I'm moving closer :)

I meant to go and fill up last night and forgot. No doubt the queues will be dreadful again when I get out of work this afternoon. Queuing will be preferable to finding the pumps empty though!

grangemouth now shut and this will hit all of the uk drastically especially the densely populated south. the pipeline that sends fuel to our neighbours has also been shut down now. and going by the greedy garages overcharging the last week in scotland the same will happen across the rest of the uk now.
good luck guys.

Long queues since lunchtime at our local petrol station in the Thames valley. Panic buying after the local radio station announced a shortage of fuel. Well there is now, because the garage has just sold it's entire weekend supply! no more deliveries until Monday.

saw grangemouth refinery from the forth bridge heading home from the airport just now and its flaring which is a welcome sight as that means someone is telling porkies somewhere regards it taking a month to get back to normality to those that do not understand flaring is a safety procedure which means its not a full shut down and is being kept warm and can more or less be producing within hours rather than weeks after the strike.
and the fuel tankers were coming over the bridge when I headed to work another welcome sight as long as they are heading to my garage lol.

Just had a right giggle watching sky news, they were saying that there are next to no queues and most the garages are quite quiet!!!! If they had been round here earlier in the week they would of seen loads of people waiting to fuel up,the queues were a nightmare!!! Also with it now being the weekend there are fewer people about.I would wait til mid week and the fun will start again cos all those that had full tanks last week will need to go in again. It will be interesting to see what the prices will be as well!!

Stations near me have no queues but seem to be out of diesel. In York today there were long queues at the Tesco filling station and an argument going in when a biker went round the outside of the queue and swerved straight in at the next available pump!

I always get mine at Tesco's thinking they will be the cheapest. Wrong.
Passed the local Esso and it was a whole one new pence cheaper.
Still no problems to report here though.
Great to see that a supply of Kerosene has reached Scotland from Holland. Helps keep the holiday planes flying, and keeps my friend rab.c in drink :boozy:

a deal has been thrashed out on the table and still to be agreed I think after the protest in london regards diesel prices and the 3.5 billion profits made by shell and bp in the first quarter of the year the government has put pressure on the owner of the grangemouth refinery to get his stables sorted out. and no limit on fuel now pad.
