I always end up getting my scalp burnt, so I'm looking for recommendations of products to protect it. I don't like wearing hats. In recent years I've had long hair, so scraping it back into a ponytail has meant that I've not had a parting to worry about, so it's been less of a problem, but I now have short hair and got my scalp burnt in the parting line last weekend, so I know I'm going to have problems in PR next month if I don't find good protection. Please help!

I have my hair cut to a number three on my jollies and use a 30 factor well rubbed in to the scalp and apply regular to start with and it always works.

This is what I was worried about re using normal sun protection lotions so thanks for that bit of info.
Baz... I'm sure Rab looks very fetching in his bunnet, but I don't think it'd suit me!

My Hubby swears by the Malibu/Calypso dry oil also, buy the highest factor and should have no burnt napper issues, these products can also be bought in Body Needs and Savers.

There is a sun-protection product specifically for this purpose....sorry, have not got the makers name

What ever sun protection is used, do not forget that it needs to be applied at least 20 mins before exposure to the sun. Rolling out of bed and onto the balconey to apply the cream is not the right way to do things!!
Good news is that the once a day lotion, that is on offer on the aeroplane, can now be applied just 15 mins before exposure, rather than the obligatory 60 mins.

This is what I was looking for. I got something specifically for the purpose years ago from my hairdresser, but my current hairdresser doesn't seem to stock anything similar.

Slightly OT, but as you've mentioned these once a day lotions... do they actually work? And especially curious about whether they continue to work if you spend a lot of time in the pool. I looked at buying some last year for my girls, but changed my mind cos I didn't trust them.

I havent seen these once a day creams but as you say, cant really see how they would work.
When our son goes on trips with school etc then they apply cream every 45 minutes - usually factor 40 or above. He has only got burnt when he had forgotten to apply cream on the back of his neck etc.
I put my cream on as a moisturiser in the morning, if I'm having a beach type day and I always use factor 8 on my face every day

They definitely do work. I used this lotion on my kids when they were young. They were in and out of the pool all the time and I never had to re-apply. I always used P20 which can be bought in the Europa Centre. You have to follow the instructions to the letter though. Hope this helps.

The once a day creams are available in most chemists, have saw them in Boots, Superdrugs, Bodyneeds etc. Im positive that its Piz Buin that sells this product.
I havent been tempted to buy it nor know anyone that has either, just didnt feel convinced it would work with several dips in the sea/pool and drying off with a towel. Di.

Finally got some info for you. The following is an extract taken from http://www.worldwideshoppingmall.co.uk/body-soul/scalp-bloc-all-day-sunscreen-for-scalp-and-face.asp
Think that it will meet your requirements
Scalp Bloc Sun Tan Lotion for scalp and face by Lifes2Good
Scalp Bloc All Day Sunscreen for scalp and face. Invisible protection, non greasy, waterproof, 1 daily application. SPF 20 UVA and UVB filters. ScalpBloc has been specially formulated to protect the scalp and face from the sun. Advisable for people with fine, thinning or close cut hair. Special waterproof formula lasts all day. Does not make hair greasy. Protects your head from burn but allows tan. Moisturiser and cosmetics may be applied over scalpbloc once it is dry. Bonds invisibly with skin and attains full SPF 20 after 1 hour. Dermatologically tested. The preferred product for sportsmen, outdoor workers and holidaymakers. It is waterproof - so recommended for sailors and watersports. It is ideal for use at altitude, particularly for snowsports. Upward facing surfaces suffer most exposure to the sun and of these the top of the head is the largest single area. Skin on the scalp and bridge of nose is also thin, and therefore in greater danger of burning. Scalpbloc has been conceived to provide an invisible sunhat, it is for people with hair - but especially where the hair is thin, close cropped or with a centre parting and therefore at higher risk of burning. It can be used by people of all ages and is suitable for use by children.

coolcreen thank you for that! You're a star! :thankyou:
I'm tempted to just go with the Malibu dry oil spray as recommended by others, cos of the difference in price, however I think I may spend the extra and get the stuff that's made for purpose, as I don't really want to risk my hair ending up getting ruined by using lotion that's meant for the body.
Also thanks for the comments regarding the apply once lotion. I think I'll do some Google research on it and if others say the same as clarobel, then I think I will buy some.
