I have just had 2 emails from Ryanair demanding me to enter my passport details on their website, prior to arrival at the airport, or I will be denied boarding.

In this day of identity theft, is this legal, safe, and what about data protection?

Can anyone enlighten me please?

:appalled::shock:

The fact that you have had 2 is strange...give them a ring to be sure .It is not un-heard of to require information in advance , but this does seem a little bit odd.

This is what it's all about...

Ryanair and a few other airlines ask you to provide the information before arriving at the airport to save time at the check in desk.

From what I've read, it looks like it does apply for Ireland as well.

We have never had to give passport details when booking online, but when we have gone to the airport and gone to the fast check in our passport details come up straight away!! SCARY!!:veryangry:

I didn't have to give my details in advance last time I travelled either, but my parents did. I think it depends on the airline. I presume my details were taken at check in.

Claire... that is a bit freaky! :eyebrow:

I put our details on iberias website I also phoned Iberia who said that the travel agent usually informs the relevent department of where you are travelling. I would phone your agent to clarify the situation
