Botanical Gardens

Situated in Tafira Alta, a 10 minute drive from the historic quarter of Las Palmas, the "Jardín Botánico is Spain's largest botanical gardens, covering some 27 hectares. Founded in 1952, the park not only serves as a tourist attraction to display the gardens and plants but also a place where many endangered species are cultivated and preserved.

As you enter the gadens, one of the first stop-off points is the Plaza Viera y Clavijo, where you have a view down and over the entire gardens. Amongst the more interesting displays are the Canarian Dragon Tree, discovered just two years ago and with sap blood-red in colour. There's a waterfall, lake, an exhibition center, a cave-workshop and a catctus garden displaying over 2,000 different species.

Getting there by bus from the south - go to Las Palmas first and from there is a service every 10 or 15 minutes that passes the gardens.
