Jeep Safari

Probably the most fun way (and one of the most popular ways) to see the island is a tour of the mountains and countryside by open-top jeep.

Each jeep seats 6 people and is driven by a specially licensed driver experienced in off-road driving around Gran Canaria. Special permits are given to the drivers to take you off road and to parts of the countryside only the jeeps are allowed to visit, the protected national park land of the island.

Setting off from the resorts in the south, you drive upwards via Puerto Mogán (stop off if everyone wants) and then the old village of Mogán. Shortly after the village the road stops and the track starts as you climb up into the mountains.

Passing the largest lakes on the island, there's a stop with enough time for those who want to have a quick swim (bikinis not provided!). Pass through a Canarian village there's then a lunch stop (food and wine/water is included) and then it's back down to the south via San Bartolome village, the pretty town of Fataga and the canyons in the south; stop offs along the way to admire the views.

IMPORTANT - This isn't the cleanest way to see the island! The tracks can be dusty if there's been no rain for a while so dress very casual indeed. Much of the journey is in the southern half of the island which is HOT but once in the center it can be a little cooler. Age group is usually 6 to 60 so no restrictions there but the journey can also be quite bumpy in parts so bear that in mind too.
